Edge of danger

Lights, camera… and action!

When a television crew arrives at Claydon Manor to film a remake of Black Beauty, it seems like the perfect start to the Easter holidays for Poppy McKeever and her best friend Scarlett.

Signing up as extras, the girls are excited to find themselves in front of the cameras.

And when one of the production company’s horses goes lame, Poppy is given an opportunity most could only dream of.

But behind the scenes, trouble is brewing. Someone is stealing the crew’s belongings from under their noses.

When Poppy attempts to expose the crook, the finger of suspicion falls a little too close to home.

And when Cloud’s very future is threatened, she must act on her instincts if she is to save him...

‘Perfect for the pony-mad amongst us - but a cracking tale even if you're not.'

A Riverdale Christmas.jpg

A riverdale Christmas

Christmas is coming and life at Riverdale is as action-packed as ever.

Poppy’s school is holding tryouts for its first ever showjumping team, and she and her best friend Scarlett are determined to be picked.

But competition for places is fierce and the team coach – formidable PE teacher Mrs Jackson – thinks Poppy’s flaky.

So when she has a chance to help Instagram star Gaz Winters with his fledgling Christmas charity, Poppy jumps at the chance.

Hoping it will impress the fearsome Mrs Jackson, she throws herself into helping Gaz and his team grant Christmas wishes for sick and disadvantaged children.

And when a young girl called Ella asks for the impossible, Poppy and Cloud must risk everything to make her Christmas dream come true.

Amanda Wills.jpg

Amanda Wills is the Amazon bestselling author of the Riverdale Pony Stories, which follow the adventures of pony-mad Poppy McKeever and her beloved Connemara Cloud.

She is also the author of the Mill Farm Stables series of pony books and Flick Henderson and the Deadly Game, a fast-paced mystery about a super-cool new heroine who has her sights set on becoming an investigative journalist.

Amanda, a UK-based former journalist and police press officer, now writes full-time and lives in Kent with her husband and fellow indie author Adrian Wills and their sons Oliver and Thomas.

In her spare time she likes nothing more than riding, playing tennis and walking and cycling around the leafy lanes near her home.

My family and other animals

Smudge, my first pony, a 13.2hh Welsh Mountain Section B who was a proper schoolmaster and a dab hand at undoing quick release knots. A talent that provided the inspiration for the mischievous Frank in Into the Storm.

Hamilton, the love of my life, and definitely the inspiration for Poppy's Cloud. He was a 14.1hh Connemara cross with the heart of a lion. I had the privilege of owning him for just over twenty years. He truly was one in a million and we had such fun together.

I am now lucky enough to ride this gorgeous boy every Friday. Dobbie is a 15.1hh dark bay Connemara, who is the most laid-back, sweet-natured horse you could wish to meet.

He's given me the confidence to start jumping again, and last year I competed at my first show in more than 20 years - and we came fourth in our class! It's safe to say Dobbie has stolen my heart!

Minstrel, our rather chubby cat, is the inspiration for Poppy's equally portly puss, Magpie. Minstrel's favourite thing in the world is eating, closely followed by snoozing. Did someone say it's time for elevenses?!

And last but not least, the men in my life. My husband Adrian and our boys Oliver and Thomas. This was taken during a family holiday to the south of France a couple of years ago.
